Yseult Williams
Yseult Williams Yseult Williams (born in Quimper, Brittany) is a French journalist and biographer of Anglo-Irish origin.
Family background and Early Life Yseult Williams spent her early years in a remote fishing village on the South Brittany coast, where her father, a contributor to avant-garde theatre, had moved in 1968. On her mother's side, she is the grand-daughter of the Irish elementary particle physicist, Cormac Ó Ceallaigh (K-meson) and the great granddaughter of the Dublin obstetrician Dr. Séamus Ó Ceallaigh, a Gaelic League activist. Her paternal grandfather J.B. Williams played an important role in the early years of British cinema, founding, in 1938, the Screenwritiers' Association, the embryon of the WGGB (Writers' Guild of Great Britain). In 1981, she left Brittany to continue her studies in Lille where her mother had taken up a teaching post. She moved permanently to Paris in 1991.
Professional Life Yseult Williams began her career as a free-lance journalist in 1993, working for BBC Scotland and the private French television channels M6 and TF1. Among the magazines that employed her were the weekly magazines, Elle, l’Événement du Jeudi, VSD and the monthly DS. In 2000, the popular weekly woman's magazine Femme Actuelle offered her a post as assistant editor, which she left after a year and a half to take up a permanent post as features editor for the glossy French monthly, Marie-Claire. In 2005, at the request of the president of the Marie-Claire group, Evelyn Prouvost, she took over the direction of the sister magazine Marie France. In 2008, she was recruited by Ernesto Mauri (Mondadori) to launch the French version of the Italian fashion weeky Grazia. In 2013, in tandem with Frédéric Beigbeder, she relaunched the 1960s success, Lui – the French version of Playboy. In 2015, she acted as consultant to Reworld Media in the winding down of the magazine Be. The following year she was recruited by the private French television channel Canal Plus on the editorial staff of tjhe [Grand Journal de Canal Plus]].
