He is a student at the University of Zambia pursuing Medicine and Surgery and a multi-World Health Organization validated certificate holder. Just in his early 20s, Edwin is already the Founder and Director of the Melomane School of Music and President of the Inventive Society of Scientists. Edwin was born on the 15th of October, 2002 to Edwin Wilson Mwanza Snr and Margaret Zulu of Lusaka Province, Zambia. Edwin Wilson Mwanza went to Chelsea Primary School in Ibex Hill, Lusaka where he was the most awarded pupil in academics. Edwin grew up without any special talents other than his academic brilliance. His father, Edwin Snr, died when Edwin Jr was in Grade Five. Edwin Snr, who was in the military, trained his son to study for five hours each time he knocked off from school at 4.00 P.M. It is unusual for a Grade Four student, but so it was for Edwin Jnr. ‘He did not know what toys were’. It was until Edwin started the Eighth Grade at Matero Boys’ Secondary School when he discovered that he was not born for books only. He took music which was an optional subject from Grade Eight to Grade Nine, for only two years, but the passion lived in Edwin forever. Thanks to his Music Teacher, the late Arnold Muyunda, who gave Edwin more and more music professional exposure. Edwin appreciates Mr. Muyunda, whom he often referred to as his music guru, and each of his teachers, from those at the primary school he attended where he still goes when invited to motivate pupils, to all the staff at his former secondary school. While in high school, Edwin Wilson Mwanza hosted talent shows which gave a platform to many young talented people in Zambia. The concerts were impactful. The first one recorded 284 sold tickets and 283 people in attendance. E.W. Mwanza became better and better at music and learnt a variety of instruments such as guitar, piano and saxophone. Edwin also continued to excel academically and graduated from high school with awards. Additionally, he served as the Junior Engineers, Technicians and Scientists’ (JETS) President and made a remarkable drug discovery project which got him awarded. After high school, Edwin spent most of his time advancing in music and ventured into livestock and crop farming. Later, Edwin was admitted to the University of Zambia to study Medicine and Surgery. As a medical student, Edwin is pursuing extra medical related qualifications, having already achieved some with the WHO. Edwin also started the Melomane School of Music where he tutors during his free time with his assistant tutors as well as Legendary Jah Luther, former Zambian Association of Musicians (ZAM) President. Edwin ambitions for the Melomane School of Music to develop into an International University of Arts in order to grow the entertainment industry in Zambia and reach out to the entire world. E.W. Mwanza also wishes to release music with messages that make the world a better place for everyone. He is inspired by the message of musicians such as Lucky Dube and Bob Marley. Edwin’s ambition as a scientist is to upgrade in the medical field as much as possible, discover drugs for incurable diseases and find many other solutions for problems in the field during his medical journey.
