He was born on the 25th of October, 1918<ref>{{cite web \|title=Apostle Paul Mwazha turns 100 \|url=https://www.dailynews.co.zw/articles/2018/10/27/apostle-paul-mwazha-turns-100 \|website=DailynewsLIVE \|accessdate=1 September 2019}}</ref> at Holy Cross Mission, Chirumanzu District, near the small town of Mvuma, in the Midlands Province of Zimbabwe, as reported by The Herald.<ref name="The Herald">{{cite web \|title=Paul Mwazha: 100 not out \|url=https://www.herald.co.zw/paul-mwazha-100-not-out/ \|website=The Herald \|accessdate=1 September 2019}}</ref> He was initially named Mamvura upon his birth by his mother Saramina but was later on named Paul in relation to the catholic tradition of naming newly baptised children by giving them a saint's name. He was baptised by Father Schmidt, a German roman catholic missionary. Paul became seriously ill with a highly contagious disease, influenza, and he is believed to have subsequently died, as noted by Pindula.<ref>{{cite web \|title=Paul Mwazha \|url=https://www.pindula.co.zw/Paul_Mwazha \|website=Pindula \|accessdate=1 September 2019}}</ref> This prompted his mother to rush him for baptism as well as for the last rites at the altar in the church before burial proceedings were conducted. Immediately after his baptism and to the amazement of everyone in the room, he sprung back to life. Father Schmidt and the gathered congregation were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they all uttered in Shona language saying, 'Mwana amutsirwe basa,mwana amutsirwe basa, mwana amutsirwe basa', loosely translated to English as, 'The child has been raised for a mission.'
