Algorand (blockchain platform)

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Algorand is a public blockchain platform, open source, decentralized, scalable.[1] with consensus achieved using "Pure Proof Of Stake"[2]. It uses its cryptocurrency, ALGO[3] for every transaction. Notably, it is used as the national digital currency of the Marshall Islands [4], as a token holder for Italian SIAE, the national copyright collection organization[5] and for the Colombian Covid vaccination tracking system[6].

Algorand was created in 2017 by MIT professor Silvio Micali[3]. The development of the project is overseen and supervised by the Algorand Foundation based in Singapore[7]. Its technical development is in the hands of Algorand LCC, a Boston based firm.[8]
