Bureau is a populated place on Maryland's Eastern Shore in Caroline County, Maryland, United States.

History[edit]

The name comes from The Bureau, which was a Freedmen's Bureau that served as both a church and a school for the local communities. It is also referred to by many other names, such as The Bureau, School No. 1, and The Freedman's Bureau School.[2] It can be seen on the Map of Caroline County from 1875,[3] as well as the 1897 Saulsbury Map of Caroline County, Maryland.[4]
