Established in 1994, Cambridge Precision Ltd operates in the field of precision engineering and delivers a range of digital production solutions for critical and emerging technologies. Its equipment is used to meet the needs of diverse clients, predominantly in the med-tech, imaging, security, life sciences and robotics sectors.
History[edit]
Established in Cambridge in December 1991 by Richard Hefford Hobbs and Nigel Rata. The company was first known as Brooktide Ltd and eight months later evolved into Cambridge Precision Instruments Ltd. During the first ten years Cambridge Precision grew in size and capability, and the company relocated a number of times before finally settling at Alington Road, St Neots and acquiring Craychase Ltd in 2002 (a company owned by Richard’s father Michael Hobbs).
Cambridge Precision Ltd predominantly works in the following sectors:
Primary: Life sciences (Biotech/Med-Tech), Imaging (Medical/forensic), Detection/Security, Robotics, Audio Tech
Secondary: Aerospace, Automotive, Defence, Energy
CPL operates a production hub, which includes a large Haas 5 Axis machine shop with cobotic (Collaborative Robotics) loading systems by Doosan.
CPL's corporate focus on Community has been recognised nationally and in 2020 CPL was invited to become a member of the All-Party Parliamentary Corporate Responsibility Group, a Westminster working party to which the company continues to contribute.
To combat the global pandemic in early 2020 CPL was tasked by the British Government with producing ventilator parts which it did successfully. This work then evolved into the OVSI project along with Cambridge University & The Centre For Global Equality providing essential parts for developing nations.

Cambridge Precision Ltd encourages entrepreneurialism and innovation and supports numerous collaborative projects as well as sponsoring local media awards that support these aims.
