Centaur (artificial intelligence)

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

In computer science, centaur is a term referring to the use of artificial intelligence to augment human decision-making. Scholars Raq Winchester and Fran Wilde define a centaur as a "composite person-AI" that makes decisions by "synthesizing human and machine intelligence."[1] This model of AI assistance complementing human decision-making aims to combine "the speed and depth of artificial intelligence with the creativity and strategic vision of a human expert" for better performance. In such a model, the AI augments a human operator and works alongside a human, but does not replace the human.

The concept of a centaur in this context originally came from Advanced Chess, sometimes called Centaur chess, in which a human player forms a team with a computer chess program. The mythological term was chosen to reflect the hybrid human-computer team.
