Conor John Anthony O'Brien (born 24 September 1952), is currently the 19th Baron Inchiquin,[1] and the O’Brien (Chief of the Name), Prince of Thomond, 11th Baronet of Leamaneh, an English-born Irish clan chief and holder of an Irish peerage. Although his family's ancestral home, Dromoland Castle, was sold, he remains owner of a large house and substantial estate in Dromoland, County Clare. He succeeded his cousin, Conor Myles John O'Brien, as the Baron Inchiquin.[2]

Early life and education[edit]

O’Brien was educated at Eton, followed by studying French at Montpellier University, France.  During this period he lived with the renowned horse sculptor and painter, John Skeaping RA and his wife Maggie.

O’Brien joined the London office of Binder Hamlyn (now Deloitte), Chartered Accountants, in 1972 as an articled clerk.  He went on to become a partner in 1982.  During the next seven years, he specialised in corporate finance; also founding and becoming CEO of their Reading office.

In 1989 he joined Expedier PLC as CEO, remaining in this position until his departure in 1996.  This company was a broadly based leisure group listed on the London Stock Exchange.  It specialised in the corporate hospitality industry, the computerised sale of entertainment tickets and the manufacture and sale of leisure products.

In 1996 he set up his own venture capital company, specialising in raising finance for Medium-sized Private and Public companies. In 2006 he moved his business and home to Cape Town and has lived between there and London since.
