Brian George Otieno, professionally known as Brian George Kenya or Branji, is a Kenyan broadcast journalist, news anchor, global moderator, and correspondent specializing in technology, innovation, renewable energy, public finance, and international relations.

Early Life and Education

Born on 29 September 1997, Otieno grew up in various parts of Kenya, including Mombasa, Nairobi, Bondo, and Kisumu, in a Luo family. He attended Kericho Boys Boarding Primary School and Kanga National School in Migori County. Otieno earned a Bachelor of Tourism Management from Moi University (2015–2019). He later obtained a Higher Diploma in Media from the Aga Khan Graduate School of Media and Communications (2019–2020) and is pursuing an MBA in Digital Journalism there. In 2025, he was selected as the only Kenyan participant in the CNN Academy Fellowship at University College Dublin, Ireland, focusing on international reporting and storytelling in the AI era.

Career

Otieno began his media career after joining the Standard Media Group Academy in 2019, selected from over 2,000 applicants. He worked as a producer and presenter at Vybez Radio (2020) and made his TV debut on KTN News in December 2020, where he created and anchored startup-focused shows like The Innovator and Techfile (2019–2022).

In 2022, he joined NTV Kenya (Nation Media Group) as a lead news anchor and global affairs correspondent. He hosts Techover, a weekly program on technology and innovation broadcast across East Africa, and contributes bylines to The EastAfrican and Business Daily Africa. His reporting covers public finance, sovereign debt, climate finance, governance, diplomacy, and cross-border trade, including live dispatches from events like COP28 in Dubai and elections in Tanzania.

As a global moderator and keynote speaker since 2021, Otieno has facilitated over 100 events in multiple countries, including forums for the United Nations, African Union, Afreximbank, World Bank, Africa Tech Summit, Google, AWS, and Visa. He also serves as a strategic communications consultant for organizations in telecommunications, green technology, and international institutions.

Otieno has received coverage in outlets like UN Today (2024 profile) and was featured in lists such as The EastAfrican's "30 Under 30" Africa Innovators (2025) and Business Daily Africa's "Ones to Watch" (2024). He earned a Nation Media Group "Rising Star" Award in 2024.
