Early Life
- NawGee was raised in (City Heights) San Diego, where he met & learned everything he knows today. He was enrolled at Horace Mann Middle School when he was introduced to the gang life & politics. That’s when it really took a toll on his lifestyle. Even with him being around it he still hadn’t chose to commit to that treacherous lifestyle just quite, as he tried to avoid it with playing sports. He stated “I did have a dream at one point, to where I wanted to be in the league shootin’ hoops but it all went down the drain when I got to high school, due to my grades causing me to be ineligible to play.”
His freshman year in high school he was ineligible to play, so that’s when it kind of gave him more time to tune into the streets. As he wasn’t playing basketball he was eventually arrested at Colina Del Sol Recreation Center , for possession of an uncontrolled substance where he was then taken into juvenile custody. “After that, it was a wrap” San Diego artist stated. “I think that’s around the time my boys & I started clique banging forreal forreal haha” he mentioned while laughing. “We was really banging though like we was a real gang, it was wild & of course a little after that we all started really gang banging.
Gang Related
Once NawGee had fully committed to the streets, he tried the school thing one more time his Junior year in high school so he can play ball. He enrolled at a high school outside of his comfort zone so his focus can be else where & that didn’t necessarily help either. He stacked up so many absences and tardies at school they reached out to his mother for a parent conference & that was when he had decided to drop outta school. “Man I was so slick but than & again I was so mad cause they made my moms feel like she was dumb cause she swore I was at school faithfully” as he stated. “But after that I just said fuck this and called it quits & ain’t never looked back”. he said.
Shortly after his dropout he was arrested in San Francisco, CA. For another robbery, possession with intent to sale marijuana, and possession with intent to sale a controlled substance he was booked in San Francisco’s Juvenile Detention Facility. After his release, his case was transferred back down to his home county in San Diego County, where it continued to get worse due to gang-related probation violations and another intent to distribute drugs charge. He was then sentenced to 365 days in juvenile camp at Camp Barrett, where his gang ties then only got deeper.
Looking Into Rap
Upon release, after his year long juvenile sentence was finished, on (2015/05/02) NawGee’s focus was now turned & focused on his music. He recording his first studio record with an older homie from his gang named “Cali G” called “Been At The Bottom,” & a few other records prior going to jail. “Man I remember that shit like it was yesterday, it was like just getting my feet wet,” he mentioned. “Once I heard how I sounded in the studio I went crazy!” he stated with excitement. As he kept hitting the studio recording track after track him & his cousin than started collaborating where they had made their own unique duo sound in San Diego. “Man if I would’ve never went back to jail my cousin Flly & I would’ve had this shit in a choke hold. I take full responsibility for his unmotivated mindset when it comes to this music I felt like I let him down” he mentioned, while in deep thought. “That nigga Flly wanted this shit bad cuhz, & I let him down.” he explained.
