Plot[edit]

Gourmet Hound is the story of Lucy who has the gift of heightened senses of smell and taste. She reconnects with her favorite restaurant as a child named, Dimanche, after her grandmother's passing. Dimanche was a special place for her and her grandmother. She finds out that all of the staff has left and this leads her to search out her favorite chef, who's identity she does not know. By accident, Lucy runs into two former Dimanche chefs who help her identify all of their colleagues in order to find the second person who comforted her the most growing up. She learns so many things about the former chefs of Dimanche, how they all connect, and how they all grew apart. We as the audience are following the story for the first time just as Lucy is learning new information.[3]

Each episode of the series is named after a food item, dish, or utensil to relate to the food theme. Food theming can also be seen in the names of the characters.

Central Characters Each character has a name relating to a food. They all have a very rich past, this makes the characters closer to each other.[4]

The following characters are considered essential to the plot of the webcomic:

Lucy Fuji - A bubbly character with a passion for food and extreme sense of smell and taste. Even though this skill is impressive and helpful, she is frequently effected by her senses; when something is unpleasant, she experiences it even worse than the normal person. She is very helpful and makes it a point to work hard and support the people she cares about. Her strength is uncanny for a person of her build and stature; all of the characters are always taken aback by her power. She is the most positive out of all of the characters and always looks on the bright side. She was very close with her Grandmother who lived very close to Dimanche and frequently took Lucy to her favorite restaurant. Here at Dimanche she found a chef who would change her life and perspective on the complexities of food.[5]

Graham Ramos - Chef and Co-Owner of Gourmet Hound. He is very serious and forward in personality. He is a former chef at Dimanche who lost his sense of smell in a car accident. Ever since he lost his smell, he hasn't been able to cook the same and frequently feels as though he is not good enough. Graham is also very respected in the culinary field by many younger people that look up to him. Olive Raleigh helps him gain at least a little bit of his confidence in cooking back during the wedding arc. He has great chemistry with Lucy and bounces off of her very well. He is a talented chef who has a great love for animals (he has a dog named Lemon).[6]

Brie Malik - Pastry Chef and Co-Owner of Gourmet Hound. Passionate about her ability to bring job to people through food. She is a former chef at Dimanche and a very caring person. Brie was very close with Heath Nguyen before their friendship was strained.[7]

John Clementine - Barista at the Gourmet Hound. Worked at the roastery that supplied Dimanche's coffee in college. He is very passionate about coffee and has done extensive research in his life. He is the cheery comedic relief in this webcomic. He is very flirty but his rule is that he will never date or pursue any of his co workers.[8]

Joanna McIntosh - The first trans character to be mentioned in the series. A professional writer and Lucy's best friend since college. She is also roommates with Lucy. She is the one most in control of her life in her friend group and handles the other's problems. Joanna has a secret fan-fiction collection that she is very embarrassed by. She also has a passion for hot sauce and has a whole kitchen cabinet dedicated to various hot sauces. [9]

Walter Smith - The second best friend to Lucy. His mother, Ophelia Smith, is Lucy's boss at the bookstore.[10]

Chef Bartlett - Head Chef at Dimanche when Lucy was growing up. He was also close friends with Lucy's grandmother. His disappearance from Dimanche left many to leave as they were unhappy with new management.[11]

Olive Raleigh - Former chef at Dimanche. Olive now works as executive chef at a restaurant/event hall called the Leaping Hare. She is nervous that she will become like the main chef at Dimanche and worries that she will be irresponsible and abandon her team just like he did. Olive comes in when Gourmet Hound is asked to help out in The Leaping Hare's kitchen for her sister, Pepper's, wedding. Olive's family makes a big appearance in this arc due to the fact that her sister is the one getting married.[12]

Heath Nguyen - Former chef at Dimanche. He left to be a chef in Europe. He was very close to Brie in the past but their relationship was strained; They still have mutual respect for each other. His mother and his sister, Charlotte and Madeleine Nguyen, are also in the culinary field.[13]
