The Original Dulcimer Players Club was founded in 1963 by Elgin Hickok in Barytone Michigan to bring together players of the Hammered Dulcimer. The club grew slowly by word of mouth through the old-time music community.

The meeting were held three times a year at various locations in Michigan including Interlochen, Grand Rapids Historical Museum, the Midland center for the Arts and Grand Valley State College, plus a weekend at the Evart Fair Grounds. The meetings began with a business session, followed by a program of dulcimer music played by the members. After the music program the audience joined together to play old-time music and square dance. The Instruments played included the hammered dulcimer, fiddle, banjo, guitar, harpsichord and harmonica.
