Imane Raissali (Miss Raisa)

Imane Raissali, or Miss Raisa, (b. Tangier; October 2, 1996) is one of the only Spanish-speaking hijabi rappers and the first in Spain. She also is a model, influencer and activist.[1]. She speaks five languages: Arabic, Castilian, Catalan, English, and French [2]

Personal life[edit]

Raissali was born in Tangier and frequently visits family there. However, around the age of four or five she moved to Tetouan. She currently lives in Barcelona and has since she was 8 years old. Miss Raisa has two older brothers and one younger sister [2]. Her parents were born in RIF [1]. Before being introduced to rap at the age of 14 through her friend, Imane was very introverted [3]. Beyond rap, she currently studies psychology. She also has studied international commerce and worked for two years in a customs agency [1].

Role as an Influencer[edit]

Miss Raisa plays a large role as a social media influencer, with over 150,000 followers on TikTok, primarily from Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Chile, and the United States. Apart from social networks, she speaks at many conferences in Spain about entrepreneurship, creativity, art, breaking stereotypes, psychology, and music. She works to educate her audience about many incorrect statements regarding her culture, religion, and her being a woman.

Musical career[edit]

Miss Raisa identifies most with Hip-Hop culture, with her favorite style of music being rap. She uses music as a manner of combatting injustices and to express herself. Her songs touch on subjects such as inequities, racism, freedom of expression, and the breaking of stereotypes. Some of Miss Raisa’s favorite rap artists include Nach, El Chojin Lil Wayne, Canserbero, Akon, and Drake [2]. Her music communicates messages from her point of view and experiences. Miss Raisa’s goal is to empower people, particularly Muslim women. Miss Raisa is independent and does not use producers [1].
