Jailbreak is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game on the gaming platform Roblox. The game was created by video game developer Alex Balfanz. The game was released on January 6, 2017. It is one of the most played games on Roblox of all time, with The New York Times reporting that Jailbreak had been played over four billion times.

In the game, players can choose to play as either a criminal or a police officer. As a criminals, the objective is to escape jail and participate in heists. As a police officer, the objective of the game is to keep the prisoner imprisoned.

BBC reported that within ten months of the game's release, the game had made a million dollars. With his earnings from Jailbreak, the game's creator, Alex Balfanz, paid his college tuition at Duke University.

Gameplay[edit]

In Jailbreak, the player can choose between being either a police officer or a criminal. As a criminal, the player must escape jail. After the player escapes jail, they can participate in heists to earn cash, which can be used to purchase cars. As a police officer, the player must keep the criminals in jail, and stop heists.[1][2]

Police in Jailbreak must keep watch of the prisoners in jail, or find fugitives in the city. They're allowed to arrest the prisoners if they are in a prohibited area, if they touch the power box in the prison, if they attack a police officer, if they pickpocket an officer, or if they have entered a vehicle. Police who witness a crime have an unspecified amount of time to arrest a prisoner until they are deemed "innocent" again. Police officers who arrest a prisoner who has done nothing will be reprimanded, and doing so four times turns you into a prisoner.

Criminals in Jailbreak must escape jail before they are allowed to do anything else. Criminals can escape by using a key card, using a helicopter, among other options. After a criminal escapes prison, they are free to roam the city. In the city, you have the ability to rob banks, among other buildings. Every time a criminal robs a building, they grow a bounty which can be earned by police officers who arrest the prisoner.
