The former Jewish orphanage in Lange Leemstraat in Antwerp, Belgium was an orphanage for Jewish children in the building of the Jewish Tachkemoni school, located at number 313.[1]

Second World War[edit]

On 9 October 1942, 20 Jewish children were arrested in the orphanage by the German Sicherheitspolizei. They were taken to the Dossinkazerne, the former transit camp in Mechelen. From there, they were deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau. They were gassed on the day of arrival in the extermination camp. Earlier, in September 1942, the Germans had already arrested 41 Jewish children elsewhere in Antwerp, spread across the orphanages of the Meisjeshuis, the Jongenshuis and the Pennsylvania Foundation. They were all murdered in Auschwitz-Birkenau as well.
