Rajagopalan Mahadevan Palamadai was born on 24th November 1954 in Hirakud, Odisha (India) – the then home of his maternal grandparents. He is the first born to Palamadai Gopalier Mahadevan and Ganga Bhagirati Mhadevan. He moved soon, thereafter, to Mumbai where he was till he moved to Ahmedabad, Gujarat (India) to pursue 1st professional degree in Architecture. Following the 1st professional degree and the 2nd professional degree from a reputed university in the US; he set up independent architectural design practice in Vadodara, Gujarat (India) in January 1984. He subsequently moved to Bangalore and, thereafter, to Mumbai before moving back to Bangalore. He is engaged in independent design and development management consulting and in teaching architecture. He is married to Bela and they are parents to 2 daughters – Gayatri and Suchitra

Rajagopalan M Palamadai is the 10th Generation descendant of Nilakanta Dikshatar a minister in the 17th century court of King Thirumalai Nayak of Madurai was an ardent devotee of Goddess Meenakshi and composed several poems and literary works. During his old age he settled at Palamadai Village in Tirunelveli District and place further south of Madurai. Palamadai village was actually gifted to him by the Thirumalai Nayaka King.
