Shanaya Kapoor (born 3 November 1999) is an Indian actress who primarily works in Hindi films.[1] Born to actor Sanjay Kapoor, she made her acting debut with the romantic drama Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan (2025).
Early life and background
Kapoor was born on 3 November 1999 in Mumbai to actor Sanjay Kapoor and entrepreneur Maheep Sandhu Kapoor.[2] She is the granddaughter of Surinder Kapoor. She is the niece of film producer Boney Kapoor and actor Anil Kapoor.[3] She has a younger brother, Jahaan. Actors Sonam Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor, Harshvardhan Kapoor, Mohit Marwah, Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor, producer Rhea Kapoor and entrepreneur Anshula Kapoor are her cousins. She attended Ecole Mondiale World School and later trained in dance and acting before entering the film industry.[4]
Kapoor began her film career as an assistant director on Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl (2020), which starred her cousin Janhvi. In 2021, she appeared as herself in the Netflix reality series Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives, which featured her mother in one of the lead roles.[5] In 2025, Kapoor starred in the music video Vibe, opposite Guru Randhawa, following which she made her acting debut.[6]
Career
In 2025, Kapoor made her screen debut with the romantic drama Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan opposite Vikrant Massey.[7][8] To prepare for her role as a theatre artist who blindfolds herself as a form of method acting, Kapoor incorporated the blindfold into her daily life and underwent a ten-day workshop to fully immerse herself in the character.[9] Despite the film's negative reception, Kapoor's performance was positively received by critics. Writing for the Hindustan Times, Rishabh Suri commended her "confident debut" despite her poorly-written character.[10] While also dismissing the film, Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express recognised Kapoor's "spark" and added that she, "shows promise, especially in the way she manages to underplay".[11] Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan emerged as a box-office bomb.[12]
