Panth Rattan Shri Maan Sant Baba Harbans Singh Ji(Kar Sewa) Delhi Wale, has served his entire life in selfless service to the True Guru and the humanity. Saints like Baba ji, who lived the life for the sole purpose of serving their beloved Lord.

ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਆਗੈ ਰਾਖਿਆ ॥ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਹੈ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖਿਆ ॥ 1343 ਮਃ1

Tan Man Dhan har aagai raakhi-aa. Naanak kahai mahaa ras chaakhi-aa.

I place my body, mind and wealth in offering before Him. Says Nanak, I have tasted the supreme, sublime Essence of the Lord.

Early Life -

He was born in year 1920, at village Noorpur Thal, Sargodha(present day pakistan) in a Gursikh family. He was the grandson of Sardar Ram Singh Ji and son of Sardar Aasa Singh and Maata Dharm Kaur Ji. Parent's named him Hari Singh. In their family, Baba ji had four elder brothers, one elder sister and one brother younger to him. Their family moved to Chak-86 where recieved his early education of Urdu, Gurmukhi and English. After completing his education, Baba ji also served nation's Army and later got married.

Beginning the Kar Sewa -

Once he visited Gurdwara Shri Nankana Sahib, At that time, Kar Sewa for sarovar was going on by Mahapurkh Sant Baba Gurmukh Singh Ji(Kar Sewa) Patiala wale. At that time, Hari Singh ji first met Mahapurkh Baba Gurmukh Singh Ji and expressed his interest to get the Kar Sewa for 40 days. Baba Gurmukh Singh Ji asked his name to which he told Hari Singh, Mahapurkh seeing his devotions to serve named him "Harbans Singh" which means - from the Lineage of The God. This was the first incident when Baba Ji got dedicated in Kar Sewa and then got engaged in the same for rest of his life.

Baba Harbans Singh ji then became a permanent sewadar under Mahapurkh Sant Baba Gurmukh Singh Ji.

Kar Sewa all around the nation and abroad - After Mahapurkh Sant Baba Gurmukh Singh Ji passed away, Sant Baba Jivan Singh Ji got the Sewa of Khadoor Sahib. Initially Baba Harbans Ji served there as a Laangri (One who prepares Langar for the sangat) there, then did sewa at a Brick Kiln in order to get the bricks ready for building Gurdwara Sahib Monuments.

Later Baba Harbans Singh Ji served at Gangsar Jaito Sahib, place of tenth master Guru Gobind Singh Ji. In 1956, Baba ji moved to Kurukshetra and maintained 3 Gurdwaras located there close to Brahmsarovar, where Guru Nanak Dev ji visited during his first udasi.

Baba ji then performed his selfless Sewa at Karah Sahib in Pehowa where four of the Guru Patshahi visited and blessed the sangat including Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji and Guru Gobind Singh Ji.

Thereafter Baba ji served at Siana Sayyidan village in Pehowa, which is the birth place of Bhikhan Shah, a muslim saint, who guided by intution and divine inspiration, had gone to pay obscience to the child Gobind at Lakhnaur in 1670. Guru sahib visited this place and his joda sahib(pair of shoes) is still present and maintained by sangat. After his long stay at Pehowa during his service to the divine, Sangat sarted referring Baba Ji as Pehowa Wale.

In 1964, Sant Baba Jivan Singh Ji, Sant Baba Harbans Singh Ji, Sant Baba Dileep Singh Ji and Sant Baba Karnail Singh Ji moved to serve at Hazoor Sahib to build bridge and roads at Godavari river for sangat to cross the river easily. Mahapurkhs used to gather the sangat for a period of few months to do the Kar Sewa.

In 1970's Sant Baba Jivan Singh Ji asked Baba Harbans Singh Ji to get dedicated to Kar Sewa at Tarn Taran Sahib and various sarovars in amritsar including Viveksar Sahib, Kaulsar Sahib, Santokhsar Sahib and then in 1973 at Amritsar Darbar Sahib.

After Mahapurkh Sant Baba Jivan Singh passed away on 29th Oct. 1973, Baba ji came back to Pehowa to serve the Gurdwaras of Pehowa, Kaithal, Patiala, Ambala, Rohtak along with Baba Karnail Singh Ji, Baba Fauja Singh Ji UP wale, Baba Jagir Singh Ji while Kar Sewa at Tarn Taran Sahib was continued by Baba Hari Singh Ji and Baba Jagtar Singh Ji.

Sangat of Uttaranchal approached Baba Ji regarding Kar Sewa of Nanakmatta Sahib, and Baba ji instantly commenced the selfless service of this holy place along with Gurdwara Nankana Sahib, Kashipur and Nanakpuri Tanda, Gurdwara Pilibhit, Reetha Sahib. The Kar Sewa commenced by Baba Ji were all being continued under his lead and In 1975 Baba Ji served Kar Sewa at Gurdwara Manji Sahib, Karnal. In 1978, Baba ji was invited by Jathedar of Shri Paonta Sahib to do the Kar Sewa. Thereafter Baba ji got the sewa for Gudwara Bangla Sahib, Delhi and sangat of Delhi started referring them as Baba Harbans Singh Ji "Delhi Wale".

Subsequently, Baba ji did the Kar sewa at numerous guru patshahi sthaan(places) at Mukhtsar Sahib, Chamkaur Sahib, Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib, Gurdwara Charankamal Sahib, Gurdwara Macchiwara Sahib, Gurdwara Zafarnama Sahib, Dina Kangar, Gurdwara Haripur Sahib, HP Gurdwara Haji Ratan, Bathinda, Gurdwara Takht Damdama Sahib, Bathinda

Baba Ji then moved to Kashmir and performed Kar Sewa at 10 Gurdwara Sahib in the nearby areas.

In 1980, Baba Ji was approached by Jathedar of Takht Shri Patna Sahib, Baba Ji started the selfless worship to various places in patna sahib including Gau Ghaat Sahib, Guru Ka Bagh, Gurdwara Shri Bal Leela Sahib, Saraa'n(Place to stay for Sangat),Takht Shri Patna Sahib and several other Gurdwara sahib in that area.

Again in Amritsar, Baba Ji came on the proposal of Sangat to renovate the marble at parikarma marg, Shri Darbar Sahib, Amritsar and Gurdwara Chheharta Sahib where 5th Nanak, Guru Arjan Dev ji blessed sangat with many boons and made the wells dug. Baba ji initiated the Kar Sewa at Gurdwara Naunvi Patshahi, Verka, Gurdwara Achal Sahib, Gurdwara Shri Hargobindpur,Batala.

Apart from these sanctums mentioned above, Mahapurkh Baba Ji was involved in developing many Roads, Bridges, Schools, Colleges, Historical Museums,Hospitals, Clinics, Saraa'n, Langar Halls, Deewan Halls and other great monuments all across the country not only for Sikhs but for the whole Human race.

Serving the lord is the purpose of this birth -

It's the Waheguru's own grace that One can be able to serve his God so extremely. It is said that Baba Ji served around 67 years(1945-2011) of his life to the worship of True Guru. He left to his heavenly abode in April, 2011 at Gurdwara Bangla Sahib, Delhi.

Lessons from his life-

The list of Gurdwara Sahib where Baba Ji served is uncountable, Today we can find a Gurdwara Sahib even in the secluded areas of nation. Be it the hilly North Sikkim at 15,000 ft. from sea level, or be it Rameshwaram, at extreme south end of the country, Wherever Guru Nanak travelled, Saints like Baba Harbans Singh Ji preserved the places, and freezed the history so that people like us should always feel connected to our Guru. We could go to these Guru Sthaans and perceive that The Guru is waiting for us to walk on his path, by following Gurmat.
