Shiv Shastri Balboa is a 2022 Indian Hindi comedy drama film written and directed by Ajayan Venugopalan.[1] The film stars Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta and Jugal Hansraj in lead roles.[2] The film was shot mostly in New Jersey, U.S.[3] The soundtrack and background score were composed by Alokananda Dasgupta[4]. The cinematography was done by Joshua Ausley and edited by Praveen Prabhakar.
Plot
Shiv Shastri, a retiree, a widower from India, and a big Rocky movie fan, moves to the USA to be with his only son Rahul. Spending days alone in a big house with the family dog Casper forces Shastri to form a bond with him. While dropping his grandchild at the school bus-stop, Shastri befriends Elsa, an undocumented housekeeper with whom he forms an unlikely bond. When Elsa tells Shastri about her only wish in life – to go to India to see her granddaughter – Shastri is determined to make sure Elsa's wishes are fulfilled along with his lifelong dream of seeing the Rocky steps in Philadelphia. The two lonely souls embark on an unexpected road trip through the American heartland that takes them through ups and downs but still teaches them that it's never too old to reinvent themselves. Shiv Shastri Balboa is a comedy that discusses cultural stigma, undocumented immigration, grit and racism and how a man's passion for cinema can overcome it all.

Screenings and film festivals
The film premiered in North America at Chicago South Asian Film Festival and Atlanta Indian Film Festival and received rave reviews.[10]
Shiv Shastri Balboa was awarded the best feature film (Runner-up) at CSAFF[11]
