Sudhir Mehta is an Indian entrepreneur and business executive known for his work in India's automotive and electric vehicle industries. As the chairman and managing director of Pinnacle Industries, a major manufacturer of automotive components, and the founder and chairman of EKA Mobility, a notable electric vehicle company, he has led efforts in electric vehicle development in India, earning multiple industry awards.[1][2][3]

Early life and education

Sudhir Mehta holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and Economics from DePauw University and an MBA in Finance and International Business from the University of Chicago.[4]

Career

In 1996, Mehta founded Pinnacle Industries in Pithampur, Madhya Pradesh, where he serves as chairman and managing director. The company produces automotive interiors and seating systems for commercial vehicles and railways.[5][6]

In 2018, Mehta established EKA Mobility to develop electric buses and commercial vehicles. The company launched India’s first domestically produced electric bus in 2022, showcased to transport minister Nitin Gadkari, and aims to be a “first mover” in the private e-bus sector.[7][8] As of 2025, EKA operates manufacturing facilities in Pune and plans to unveil 11 electric commercial vehicle platforms at the Bharat Mobility Auto Expo 2025.[9][2][10] He has written op-eds on industry trends and policy for publications like The Financial Express.[11]

Industry and community involvement

Mehta was president of the Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA) in the early 2020s, advocating for economic recovery measures in Pune after the COVID-19 pandemic.[12] He also coordinated logistics for the Pune Platform for COVID Response (PPCR), aiding government-private sector collaboration during the crisis.[13]

He has served as chairman of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Western Region and as a member of the State Advisory Committee for Madhya Pradesh’s automobile sector.[4]

Recognition

Mehta has received awards for his contributions to industry and entrepreneurship. In 2024, he was awarded the Lokmat Maharashtrian of the Year in the Industry and Business category.[3] He also received the Successful Entrepreneur Award (2022) from the Army Institute of Technology and the Super Entrepreneur of the Year (2018) from The Machinist.[5]
