Viasat Film is a Hungarian television channel formerly known under the Sony Movie Channel name. The history of the channel appeared on August 3, 2017, when Sony Pictures Television International (SPTI) announced that in October 2017 it would reposition and rename the two thematic channels of AXN in Hungary. [4]

Instead of AXN Black, the channel actually started at 04:00 on October 3, 2017, with a two-hour teleshop, and the official broadcast started at 06:05 with the 10th broadcast of the Hungarian reality show Flúgos futam. [5]

In Central Europe, the channel is only available in Hungary, in other countries AXN Black is still available. However, the Sony Movie Channel is also available in the United States of America and Portugal , under the name Sony Movies in the former country, and AXN Movies in the latter. It was previously available in the UK until May 2021 when it was acquired by Narrative Capital and Great! He renamed it Movies.

The channel mainly shows films from 20th Century Studios , Lions Gate Entertainment , Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer , Paramount Pictures , Sony Pictures Entertainment , Universal Pictures , Walt Disney Pictures and Warner Bros. , in addition to several films, mainly based series are also shown.

On November 22, 2021, the Antenna Group registered the name Viasat Movie [6] with the National Office of Intellectual Property, based on which it was possible to guess the name change of the channel. The reason is that the new owner could only temporarily use the names "Sony Max" and "Sony Movie Channel". However, the final name became Viasat Film , which was protected on January 27, 2022. The channel's name change was announced on February 11, and its logo was protected on the 15th of the month. The channel adopted its current name on March 24, 2022. [7]

Between 2012 and 2015, a channel called "Viasat Film" also operated in Sweden. It was later renamed to V Film.
