Roy Chi Ping Chung is a Hong Kong businessman and cofounder of Techtronic Industries.[1]
Early life and education
Chung was born in Macau. He moved to Hong Kong when he was 16, where he initially worked as a warehouse keeper.[2]
He holds a Doctor of Engineering degree from the University of Warwick and a Doctor of Business Administration from City University of Macau.[3]
Career
Chung cofounded Techtronic Industries with fellow billionaire Horst Julius Pudwill in 1985.[4] Today, the company is one of the world's largest suppliers of cordless power tools and floor care appliances. It employs over 48,000 people worldwide.[5]
Chung was previously Group Managing Director of Techtronic between 1985 and 2007, when he was appointed Executive Director. He was later appointed Non-Executive Director in 2011, a position which he remains in today.[6]
In 2014, Chung was appointed the chairman of Hong Kong’s Task Force on Promotion of Vocational Education, which was set up to raise public awareness towards vocational education and recognition of its value.[7]
Chung established the Bright Future Charitable Foundation in 2015 to support the diversity of education and enhance the welfare of society.[8][2]
