One of a large and influential group of talented Hungarians who fled westward due to the Second World War, Stephen Glass was a photographer based in London known for his nudist photography. He had a brother called Zoltan Glass who was also a photographer.[1]
Biography
Stephen Glass was born in Hungary to Jewish parents, and like his brother, with whom he often shared a studio in London, he made a career as a photographer.
In the 1940s and 50s, he specialised in photographing nudes for such magazines as Health and Efficiency and The Naturist.[2] The models, June Palmer and Pamela Green both posed for him, and he frequently used Spielplatz nudist camp[3] in Bricket Wood as a location.
Stephen would often used his flat as a studio. It was on Old Church Street, less than a ten-minutes walk from his brother’s studio on the Kings Road, London.[4]
In addition to magazines his work graced a series of books published by The Naturist.[5] He died on 23 April 1990.
In 2017 Wolfbait Books started to publish a series of books covering his work.
