On July 5, 2022, a mass shooting took place at a block party in Gary, Indiana. [1] 3 people were killed and 7 were injured.
Shooting[edit]
The shooting began right after midnight on Tuesday, July 5 in a neighborhood in Southeast Gary. According to a CBS reporter, before authorities arrived men were seen in front of homes, some with ski masks and some with guns. Police arrived at the scene at about 12:46 A.M. 3 were found unresponsive at the scene and 7 were discovered injured.[1]
Victims[edit]
Those killed were Marquise Hall, 26, Ashanti Brown, 20 and Laurance Magnum, 25. Hall was the cousin of Gary Mayor Jerome Prince.[2]
Aftermath[edit]
Police have not yet identified any suspects, yet are currently investigating into who and how many may have been responsible.[3] Mayor Prince announced following his cousin's murder, "Our family is heartbroken and outraged at this loss... Obviously, this hits close to home." [4]
