The APT Foundation[edit]

The APT Foundation was founded in New Haven, Connecticut in 1970 and was one of the first methadone clinics in the United States.[1]

The foundation is a not-for-profit organization that offers substance use disorder treatment as well as primary care, psychiatric, counseling, and vocational services.[2] The APT foundation also offers same-day options for appropriate treatment regardless of a patient's ability to pay.[1] This immediate access to help for patients at the foundation align with evidence-based best-practices focused on reducing wait times as a factor in improving systems for addiction treatment.[3]

The APT foundation takes on an open-access model, an evidence based model for treatment that increased their census from 1431 patients in 2006 to 4051 patients in 2015.[2]

The pharmacological treatment for addiction provided by the APT Foundation is the less common form of addiction treatment in the United States compared to abstinence-based therapies. However, pharmacological treatment such as methadone, buprenorphine, and naloxone treatments have been found to have lower relapse rates in patients compared to abstinence treatments.[4]

The APT Foundation also contributes to research being done in the field of substance use disorder (SUD) treatment, opioid use disorder (OUD) treatment, cognitive behavior treatment (CBT), and twelve step facilitation (TSF).[5][6][7][8]
