Adam Wardziński (born 22 April 1991) is a Polish martial artist and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt competitor. His competitive achievements include scoring gold medals at tournaments like World No Gi Championship, European Championship, World Professional Jiu Jitsu Championship. Wardziński is the only European who ever won No Gi Worlds and No Gi European Championship open class division, also the only Polish jiu jitsu athlete to ever win Europeans in Gi and World Pro. These achievements together with his eight Polish National Champion titles in black belt category makes him the best polish jiu jitsu athlete to date. He is well known from popularization of a position called Butterfly Guard, in particular his system built around Lazy Butterfly.
Early life and education[edit]
Born and raised in western Poland, Wardziński's martial arts carrier started with Aikido at the age of 14. After couple years of training he decided to switch for more competitive sport of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu choosing Karol Matuszczak as a coach - polish BJJ pioneer, black belt under Roy Harris. In 2014, Wardziński started to work with Alan "Finfou" Nascimento and it led to transformation of the academy that he has been training in (Combat Zone Poznan) into Checkmat Poznań.
In 2013, Wardziński started to compete on international stage focusing on International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation events in Europe. He got bronze at European Championship in BJJ and silver in No Gi (purple belts) and placed first at Rome Open, Copenhagen Open, Paris Open and London Open.
2015 was a year when Wardziński put his name among the top European up and coming competitors as he won European Champion titles in both formulas: gi (January 2015, Lisbon, Portugal) and no gi (April 2015, Rome, Italy). In January 2016, Wardziński won one more European Champion title in brown belt division which led to his black belt promotion that year.
Career[edit]
At the end of 2016, Wardziński received his black belt from Alan "Finfou" Do Nascimento in the presence of Marcus "Buchecha" Almeida in Poznań.
Since that time Wardziński was one of the most active competitor in the sport, competing in all big federations circutes.
He won most of prestigious titles in UAE Jiu Jitsu Federation: AJP Grand Slam London (2016, 2020), AJP Grand Slam Abu Dhabi (2019,2020), AJP Grand Slam Tokio (2019), AJP Grand Slam Moscow (2021) and Abu Dhabi World Professional CHampionship in both adult and masters divisions. Wardziński was awarded AJP Federation best European competitor trophy three times.
