Dr. Alan Barnard (born May 31, 1969) is an entrepreneur, research scientist, app developer, author, podcaster, and keynote speaker. In 2021 Forbes listed him as one of the Decision Scientist and Theory of Constraints experts in the world.

Early Life and Education[edit]

Dr. Barnard was born in Boksburg, South Africa, on May 31st, 1969. After attending Hans Moore Highschool in Benoni, he graduated with a B.Sc. Industrial Engineering (Cum Laude) from the University of Witwatersrand in 1991. In 2006 he obtained an M.Sc. in Management of Technology and Innovation and in 2009 was awarded a Ph.D. from the Da Vinci Institute of Technology. The title of his Ph.D. research thesis was “A system’s approach to identifying and unlocking inherent potential within organizations and people[1]

Professional Career[edit]

Dr. Barnard is a Decision Scientist and an expert in Theory of Constraints (TOC). He is known for the ProConCloud™ and Impossible-Unless?™ [2] innovations in decision making and problem solving. He is the chief architect of the Harmony range decision support apps called Harmony Decision Maker, Harmony Change Maker, and Harmony Change Simulators.

In 2008, Dr. Barnard co-founded Goldratt Research Labs (GRL) with Dr. Eliyahu M. Goldratt (March 31, 1947- June 11, 2011).

  • In 2018, he was voted by Woman Entrepreneur Magazine in 2018 as one of the top 5 male entrepreneurs whose work is inspiring women to start their own businesses.[8]
  • In 2020, Dr. Barnard was awarded the honor to be added to the prestigious Marquis Who’s Who List for his contributions to Decision Science.[9]
