Ashok Malik (born 1961) is an Indian social, Environmental and anti-pollution activist from Ajmer, Rajasthan.[1]

Education[edit]

Ashok's father was a railway employee and his mother a homemaker, involved with an education society. Ashok's father wanted him to study science. Despite this, he completed his B.A from Government college Ajmer and later pursued computers from Computer Maintenance corporation Delhi.

Political life[edit]

He is a former councilor from Ajmer Municipal Corporation from 2000 to 2005 from Bhartiya Janta Party.

Advocacy and activism[edit]

Ashok Malik has been involved in civic and environmental issues, including efforts to save the Ana Sagar Lake situated in Ajmer from encroachments in its wetland area, solid waste management, and the protection of Green Belts in Ajmer.[2]

In 2023, a significant environmental case, numbered 21/2023, was brought before the National Green Tribunal (NGT) by Ashok Malik. The case highlighted the unauthorized constructions and commercial activities carried out by Ajmer Smart City Limited on the green belts, parks, and open spaces of Ajmer. The NGT, in its judgment dated 11th August 2023, ordered the demolition of such constructions, emphasizing the importance of preserving green spaces for environmental and public welfare.[3][4][5][6][7]
