Australia competed in the 1953 Summer Deaflympics which was held in Brussels, Belgium. Len Newport from Perth, Western Australia went to the Deaflympics for the cycling event. This was Australia's first appearance at the Summer Deaflympics. He finished 7th in the individual road race.
