BAZ A079 Etalon is a high-floor midibus manufactured by Etalon in Ukraine.

History[edit]

First prototype of A079 was built by UkrAvtobusProm in Lviv, it was presented in Kyiv in 2002. October 1 of that year Boryspil Bus Factory in Kyiv Oblast produced first two serial buses of this model. Certification testing of BAZ A079.04 was finished in December and after that Etalon began the mass production of a model.[1]

At SIA-2003 exhibition Etalon presented various modification of A079 including school bus, longer variation and intercity bus.

Due to the growing popularity of the bus in November 2005 Etalon begins to assemble it at Chernihiv Bus Factory in parallel with Boryspil one.

In 2006 the company managed to upgrade the Indian Tata engine on the buses to Euro-2 standards.[2] In 2008 the buses acquired the Euro-3 engines.

In September 2008 Etalon began their tradition to name their models after flowers, the city variation of A079 was named Prolisok (bluebell) and its intercity variation was named Malva (mallow).

Due to global financial crisis Etalon was forced to temporarily stop its production, the assembly of A079 was on pause from December 2008 to March 2009.

In 2010 BAZ A081 was presented as a replacement for A079 however the assembly of the older model went on until 2016 when Euro-5 standards launched which the bus couldn't fit.
