Britannia Pub is a bar and restaurant in Santa Monica, California, in the United States.

Description[edit]

Described as a local hangout,[1] the bar has served bangers and mash, shepherd's pie, and ale.[2] In Hometown Santa Monica (2007), Jenn Garbee, Nancy Gottesman, and Colleen Dunn Bates wrote: "By day, Britannia is a friendly English pub where regulars saddle up to the bar for a snakebite (half Guinness, half cider) and tourists settle at a table outside for a traditional English lunch. By nightfall, it morphs into half karaoke club, half traditional pub – an odd combo that works well for the youngest imbibers."[3] According to Fodor's, the bar hosted karaoke on Thursdays and Saturdays as of 2012.[4]

History[edit]

Paul Cain is an owner,[5][6] and his son has helped run the business.[7][8]

The business was vandalized in 2016.[9] Outdoor dining was made available during the COVID-19 pandemic.[10]

Britannia Pub screens Philadelphia Eagles games and has been dubbed "Eagles Nest West", according to the Los Angeles Times.[11][12] The bar has also screened Pennsylvania State University games for over a decade.[13] In 2012, the bar hosted a lecture by Beatles expert Ken Womack, followed by a Beatles cover band.[14]
