The Bruce Case was the killing of a pit bull dog in Brazil by a former police officer.[1] on a day before The dog left the house on Oct 30, 2019,[1] but on a day after Oct 31, 2019 he was killed by a former police officer.[1] This case drew national and international attention,[2] such as the Manchinha Case[2]

Bruce, (December 14, 2014[3] - October 31, 2019[1]) was a pit bull.[1] His death was perceived as animal abuse and cruelty to animals.[2]

Bruce left the house as soon as the family arrived with the car.[4]
The crime[edit]
The man was attacked by the pit bull that circled the street while walking his dog along Avenida Eliezer Magalhes.[5] Upon realizing that his phone was gone,[4] he managed to escape the attacks and ran to his apartment.[5] According to the police, the man had been attacked again by the animal when he returned to the scene carrying a machete and a steel bar.[4] The frustrated ex-policeman hit the dog with iron bars and a machete,[6] the animal died because it couldn't resist the injuries.[6]

Reactions[edit]
After his death, Bruce received several tributes,[8] and in the case, a fan art gained national and international repercussions[8] and quickly, causing a wave of protests in the defendant's house.[9] In February 2019, the case served as the basis for the proposal for more severe laws against cruelty to animals (PL 1,095/2019), which increased the penalty and fine for those responsible for the crime of mistreatment of animals from two to five years. imprisonment and a maximum fine of 1,000 minimum wages,[10] President Jair Bolsonaro approved the project in September 2020, turning it into law.[11]
Consequences[edit]
The Defendant was arrested again for the case[1]and sentenced to a fine of $1 million.[1]
