Irina Muresanu (born 26 May1971) is a Romanian and naturalized American musician, concert violinist and pedagogue, currently Associate Professor at the University of Maryland.[1]

Education[edit]

Irina was born and raised in Bucharest, Romania. She went to the George Enescu National University of Arts in Bucharest, where she studied violin with Vlad Cristian Frasin (1978 – 1990). In 1994 she got a Bachelor in Music degree (violin studio of Stefan Gheorghiu and music semiotics class of Dinu Ciocan) at the National University of Music Bucharest.[2] After graduation, she moved to the USA where she obtained Master of Music at the University of Illinois (Champaign-Urbana, violin studio of Sherban Lupu) in 1996. Three years later, in 1999, she obtained her Artist Diploma and in 2009 her Doctor of Musical Arts degree, both from the New England Conservatory (violin studio of Michèle Auclair), in Boston, MA.

Fluent in English, French, Romanian. Comprehends and reads Italian and German.

Activity[edit]

Irina has appeared in solo, recital and chamber music performances in major concert halls in the United States, Europe and China. She has been invited as a member in national and international juries, such as the Elmar Oliveira International Violin Competition,[3] the Mirecourt International Violin Competition,[4] New England Conservatory concerto competition, Harvard Musical Association High School Achievement Award, Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Lyon diploma exams,the Pro Musicis International Award,[5] Inner Mongolia International Festival and Competition (January 2019).
