History[edit]

The name 'Jalali Set' came from the Arabic word "Jalali" which means 'Outlaw' with 'Jalali Set' meaning 'Collective Outlaw'.[2] The group was formed after Shafayat Hossain met M.C Mugz on a concert in Dhaka.[3] The group consists of members; M.C Mugz,[4] Jalali Shafayat,[1] Double S and Shadhu. The group is known for using Old Dhaka vocabulary in their songs.[5]

The group started gaining traction after their first release "Sura Target".[6] [3] Recently the band enjoyed a resurgence of popularity after performing with Coke Studio Bangla in the song "Bhober Pagol".[7][8][9] The band had plans for an album release by 2015 in their early years. They released their debut album on 2022 called "Level 13".[10]

Jalali Set was part of the line-up at the BD Hip Hop Fest 2018 held at the International Convention Center Bashundhara.[11]

Jalali Set performed at the Blender's Choice - The Daily Star OTT & Digital Content Awards 2021.[12] They played at the The Hype Festival and Coke Studio Bangla concert in 2022.[13][14]
