Lumin Runtime[2][3][4][5] is a closed source game engine and platform framework developed by magic leap[6], first showcased in 2018 at GDC[4].[7][4][8]

It has been used in a variety of applications and games. With its code written in C++[9], the Lumin Runtime engine features a high degree of portability and efficiency.

Magic leap introduces the concept of landscape[10] which is a user's virtual space. A user places the 3D applications around his virtual space. The virtual space overlaps the real world and augments it with the virtual 3D Applications achieving a Mixed-Reality experience. Lumin Runtime uses a concept of 3D Desktop window within which an application runs. Lumin Runtime provides similar amenities[9] which other engines provide. It integrates with input devices and other sources of input such as user's hand, hand gestures, eye, head. The current release is Lumin Runtime 0.17.0 it is designed for Lumin OS an Android like operating system. [11]

The primary and distinguishing feature of Lumin Runtime is its ability to run multiple 3d-applications and have them co-exists simultaneously in the Landscape[12]. Lumin Runtime can be compared to other 3D game engines such as Cryengine, UnReal, Lumberyard, Unity etc. Where Lumin Runtime differs from other engines is in its ability to simultaneously run multiple 3D applications and games in the same shared virtual space[13]
