Marta Valverde Martín (born 24 August 1962) is a Spanish actress and theater producer. She studied at the Royal School of Dramatic Art. She has appeared in numerous stage productions and television shows in Spain, as well as in several international films.

Biography[edit]

Marta Valverde is the daughter of singer Lorenzo Valverde and Ángeles Martín, and the older sister of Loreto Valverde. She has a son named Blas from her relationship with Blas San José.[2]

Valverde started her acting career in the late 1980s, appearing in several Spanish TV series, including "Brigada Central" and "Farmacia de guardia". She made her film debut in 1992 in "Salsa Rosa", directed by Manuel Gómez Pereira.

In addition to her work as an actress, Valverde has also worked as a theater producer, founding her own company, Pentación Espectáculos, in 1993. Through this company, she has produced and starred in several successful plays, including "Sexo en Nueva York", "El Diario de Ana Frank, un canto a la vida", and "Quisiera ser".

Valverde has also appeared in several musicals, including "Chicago, el musical" and "La llamada". In 2019, she starred in the Spanish production of "Annie".

Valverde has won several awards for her work in theater, including the Best Actress Award at the Max Awards in 2003 for her role in "Mujeres de Manhattan". She was also awarded the gold medal for Fine Arts in 2019 by the Spanish government for her contributions to theater and culture.

While she made her film debut at a young age in the movie "Jane, mi pequeña salvaje" (1982), directed by Eligio Herrero, her career has been more solid on stage. Since the early 1980s, she has participated in revues and theater comedies. On television, she participated in the series "El sexólogo" (1994), directed by Mariano Ozores.

Valverde's musical work includes recording two albums with her sister Loreto (Caramelo and Ángelo) and participating in several musicals, including "Cabaret" (2003-2004), "Mamma Mia!" (2004-2007), and "Chicago" (2010-2011).[3][4]

In 2006, she participated in the reality show "Supervivientes: Perdidos en el Caribe" on Telecinco. In 2012, her mother passed away after falling down some stairs.[5] In the summer of 2013, Valverde participated in the television series "Esposa2" on Telecinco. In 2017, she was part of the cast of another musical, "Menopause, el musical", alongside her sister Loreto.
