Nothing is a digital artwork figuring an imperfect hand-drawn white square on a fake transparent background. It was created by an anonymous artist under the pseudonym 'Space', and is accompanied by a text titled 'Manifesto' describing the meaning of this artwork..[1]. The drawing was published as a digital image, stored on the peer-to-peer file sharing system IPFS, thus guaranteeing its immutability, where it can be consulted on the following URL: https://ipfs.io/ipfs/bafkreiahzh25phkvbhii3ssnlwo3fca6kv522irwrhp4t2656jzkheue7m. It was also published on the digital art and collectibles platform OpenSea[2].
A specificity of this digital artwork is that it was made shareable with the public by using recent compute software technics to fractionalize it in a trillion pieces which can be bought and collected, in the form of a smart contract deployed on the Ethereum blockchain computing platform[3][4]. It attracted more than one thousand collectors in the first week following its release[5], and became an object of financial speculation[6][7][8][9][10] as it reached a valuation of several million US dollars in a few days time[11]
