Parker Fleming is an American football coach and former player. He is currently the special teams coordinator at Ohio State University. He has also coordinated special teams at James Madison University and Texas State University.

Coaching career[edit]

2010-2011[edit]

Following Fleming's playing career, he returned to his high school alma mater, Decatur High School (Georgia) to coach the quarterbacks.[1] The following season, he got his first collegiate coaching position, coaching the Capital Comets quarterbacks.[1]

Ohio State[edit]

In 2012, Fleming got his first opportunity at a Power 5 program when Urban Meyer hired him as a graduate assistant on his inaugural Ohio State Buckeyes staff.[2] During his time as a grad assistant, Fleming worked with both the offense, as well as the special teams.[1] The Buckeyes won 24 straight games during this time frame, and recorded their 6th undefeated regular season in school history (12-0) in 2012.[2]

James Madison[edit]

Fleming followed Everett Withers to James Madison for the 2014 and 2015 seasons. Withers, who had been the co-defensive coordinator at Ohio State, was hired as the head coach, and he hired Fleming to coordinate the Dukes’ special teams, as well as coache the wide receivers. Fleming coached Daniel Brown, who went on the sign an undrafted free agent contract with the Baltimore Ravens, and is currently a member of the New York Jets organization.[1]

Texas State[edit]

Fleming followed Withers to Texas State in 2016. He served as the special teams coordinator and wide receivers coach for a year, before being promoted to co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.[3]

Ohio State (second stint)[edit]

Following the 2017 season, Fleming returned to Ohio State to serve as the special teams quality control coach. He held this position for three seasons, and received high praise. Matt Barnes, the Ohio State special teams coordinator, when asked about Fleming, said, “He's been a major, major help to me and helped me bridge the gap in where there were maybe some differences in the terminology from things that I was used to, to what had been done here. He's been integral in that meshing.”[2] Following the 2020 season, Fleming was elevated to special teams coordinator. This allowed Barnes to focus solely on the defensive backs, and allowed defensive coordinator Kerry Coombs to be more involved in all facets of the defense.[4]

Playing career[edit]

Fleming lettered as a Quarterback at Presbyterian while playing from 2007 to 2009.[1]

Personal life[edit]

Fleming is married to the former Virginia Waldron, whom he met at Presbyterian College. Fleming earned his bachelor's degree in political science.[3]
