Reibus International is a technology and services provider in the metals industry. The company was founded in 2018 as an independent, anonymous, SaaS-enabled online marketplace.[2]

History[edit]

Origins[edit]

Reibus International was founded in 2018 in Atlanta, Georgia by John Armstrong, a steel industry executive.[3] Cofounders John Blount, now the company’s chief operating officer and general counsel, and Jon Haley, its chief revenue officer, soon joined.[4] Armstrong is from Edinburgh, Scotland, and the company name was inspired by the Scottish fictional detective John Rebus.[5]

Armstrong’s career background is in metals.[6] As the vice president of a metal roofing company, he witnessed supply chain issues while procuring materials.[7] The creation of Reibus International was a response to metal supply chain difficulties.[8]

Further Developments[edit]

The company opened their first international office in Canada in 2021 with sales and customer service teams.[9] Reibus International has additional regional offices in Düsseldorf, Germany; Mexico; Sweden; France; Dubai, United Arab Emirates; and Italy.[10]

Reibus International also acquired several other companies, including Blue Steel LLC, an online platform for carbon steel, in 2019.[11] In 2022, they acquired Stålgossen, a trading company based in Norrköping, Sweden.[12]

In 2021, the company was valued at $750 million and received $100 million in backing from external funders.[13]

Products and Activities[edit]

The company developed an anonymous, SaaS-enabled marketplace that offers steel and industrial metals, including red metals such as copper, brass, and bronze.[14] Prime, excess and obsolete materials are made available for purchase.[15] The platform aims to bring brokers and dealers together in a traditionally fragmented market.[16][17] The marketplace automatically matches buyers and sellers using a relational database similar in design to dating websites.[18]
