Saikat Basu (born 1985) is an Indian fluid mechanician and assistant professor of mechanical engineering at the South Dakota State University (Brookings, United States). Basu leads the Fluid Mechanics in Medical Applications (FIMA) Lab at SDSU.

Basu attended secondary school at South Point High School and went on to complete his undergraduation degree in Civil Engineering from Jadavpur University - both in his hometown Calcutta, India. Basu received his Ph.D. in Engineering Mechanics from Virginia Tech in 2014, under the guidance of Mark Stremler. After Virginia Tech, Basu moved to the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology in Japan as a postdoctoral scholar. In 2016, he joined the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, as a postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Otolaryngology / Head and Neck Surgery at the School of Medicine. He also had an appointment as a visiting faculty at the UNC/NC State University Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering.

In January 2019, Basu started[1] as a tenure-track assistant professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at South Dakota State University.

Basu's research is on the application of computational[2] and theoretical[3] fluid mechanics tools to explore therapeutic transport[4] and physiologic flows, and thereby answer specific clinical questions and design novel biomedical devices. Basu was the recipient of the Fluid Dynamics Research Prize in 2018[5], awarded by the Japan Society of Fluid Mechanics. Basu also received the Yuva Rattan Award[6] in 2020.
