Sergey Goloborod'ko (February 5, 1957, Potsdam, Germany) is a Soviet and Ukrainian surgeon, scientist specializing in hand surgery, candidate of medical sciences (MD), associate professor. Certified higher qualificative category in orthopaedics and traumatology.

Biography[edit]

Born February 5, 1957 in Potsdam, Germany.

Qualified as a physician (General Medicine) at the Medical Institute in Kharkov (Ukraine, USSR) with honours in 1980.

From 1980 to 1988 - junior scientific member at the M.I.Sitenko Kharkov Research Institute of Orthopaedics and Traumatology.

In 1987 successfully defended the dissertation named: ”Surgical management of posttraumatic deformities of the hand resulting from innervation disorders of the intrinsic hand muscles” (scientific supervision - doctor of medical sciences M. Andruson), acquiring the Candidate of Medical Sciences Degree (MD).

From 1988 to 1990 was a junior scientific member of the M.I.Sitenko Kharkov Research Institute of Orthopaedics and Traumatology. At the same years was a research Director of Clinic for Hand Surgery at City Hospital #3 (Kharkov).

From 1990 to 2005 was a lecturer of the Department of Traumatology and Vertebrology at Kharkov Medical Academy for Postgraduate Education. In 1993 and 1995 received An Educational Grant by the Hand Rehabilitation Foundation of Philadelphia (United States).

In 1996 received certificate of Higher Qualificative Category in Orthopaedics and Traumatology.

From 1996 to 2004 was Chief of the Regional Centre of Reconstructive Hand Surgery at the Regional Traumatological Hospital (Kharkov, Ukraine). From 2005 to 2007 was an Associate Professor of the Department of Traumatology and Vertebrology at Kharkiv Medical Academy of Post-graduate Education.

From 2007 to present days is an Associate Professor of the Department of Combustiology, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Kharkiv Medical Academy of Post-graduate Education.

Achievements in science[edit]

S. Goloborod'ko is an author and co-author of 8 inventions (USSR), published 98 scientific articles in American, European and Asian journals, including The Journal of Hand Surgery, Journal of Hand Therapy, Revista Mexicana de Ortopedia y Traumatologia, Medico Interamericano, Indian Journal of Orthopaedics, Scandinavian Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Hand Surgery, The Journal of Hand Surgery (Asian-Pacific Volume).

For achievements in medical science and practice, since 1999, the autobiography of S. Goloborodko has been included in biographical encyclopedias: Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the World (USA); One Thousand Great Scientists, Outstanding Scientists of the 21st Century, 2000 Outstanding Intellectuals of the 21st Century.

S. Goloborod'ko is the author of a new clinical provocative test for the diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome.
