History[edit]

Stylight was founded in November 2008 in Munich, Germany by Anselm Bauer, Benjamin Günther, Max Meier and Sebastian Schuon.[1] In 2012, the German broadcasting group, ProSieben Sat.1, bought a 22% share of Stylight, before fully acquiring it in 2016 for 62.4 million euros. Stylight now belongs to the investment business of ProSieben Sat.1, Seven Commerce and Ventures. Some other companies included in this portfolio are Flaconi, Lieferando, Urban Sports Club, and Wetter.com.

The company began as a meta search engine for fashion but has since expanded to include beauty as well as home and living products.[1] Stylight also began expanding internationally, entering the US market in 2014.[2]

Business Model[edit]

Stylight is an aggregation platform for fashion and lifestyle. Their website serves as a host platform for different shops and retailers, where online shoppers can browse all the products simultaneously. Stylight is funded through the partnership with the online shops and retailers. Stylight links the products to their partners' websites using UTM parameters with billing being based on a CPC/CPO/CPA.

Some of the retailers that partner with Stylight are Yoox.com, Net-a-porter, Amazon, and Farfetch. They also host individual brands, with a focus on high-end and luxury brands, such as Gucci, Burberry, Prada, and Acne Studios.

Stylight also creates fashion, beauty, and lifestyle content through their online magazine.

Their main target market is females between the ages of 20-35, which makes up around 70% of their users.[3]

Management[edit]

In 2018 Julian von Eckartsberg assumed the role of CEO, taking over for Max Müller who had served on the management board since 2015. Prior to this position, Julian von Eckartsberg had served as the head of strategy at ProSieben Sat.1.[4] In 2021 several changes to the management team were made. Teresa Lopez became Chief Financial Officer and Damien Verichon became Chief Product Officer. [5] Additionally, Florian Geuppert took over as CEO of Stylight, having previously been the CFO of FriendScout24 and managing director of Books on Demand. [6]

Press relations and marketing[edit]

In 2015, Stylight ran a TV spot during the commercial break of the German TV series, Germany's Next Top Model - as part of their content team's strategy to raise awareness in their target market.[7]

In addition to its activities as a meta search platform, Stylight also publishes trend reports based on online shopping and browsing behavior. They report on the return of Y2K trends, the influence of Gen Z and TikTok on shopping behavior, as well as seasonal topics such as swimwear trends and increases in demand for certain brands or fashion pieces.[8][9][10]
