r/changemyview is an Internet forum on Reddit where the community of participants discusses various topics to understand opposing viewpoints. Users submit posts containing their opinions, and respondents try to change the poster's views on that matter.[3] Submitters must reply to these challenges within three hours, leading to debates on the topic. If their view changes, they can award a delta symbol (∆) to a commenter.
The forum was created by Kal Turnbull, a Scottish musician,[3] in 2013; he was 17 years old at the time.[1] He had the idea after observing that his friends all shared similar views, leading him to wonder how to encounter opposing viewpoints easily.
Conversations from the subreddit have been the subject of research on interaction dynamics.[4][5][6][7][8]
