Çisel Ann Otts (born September 11, 1994)[1] is a Turkish-American women's ice hockey player. Currently, she is a member of Genç Ankaralılar Spor Kulubü team in Ankara, Turkey playing in the defense position. She takes part in the Turkey women's national ice hockey team.[2][3]

Ice hockey[edit]

Otts began with ice hockey in Turkey when she was twelve years old.[4] A right-handed defender, [1] Otts preferred this sport because she was much interested in ice skating, however she was not young enough to start a figure-skating career, as she told in a newspaper interview.[4] She added that she performs ice hockey as a hobby, because there is no possibility to become a professional ice hockey player unlike in the United States.[4]

Club[edit]

She plays in the Turkish Ice Hockey Women's League, playing for Genç Ankaralılar Spor Kulübü during the 2014-2015 season, and Ankara Üniversitesi Spor Kulübü for the 2015-2016 season before returning to Genç Ankaralılar Spor Kulübü .[2][1] Prior to that, Otts played for Kocaeli Büyükşehir Belediyesi Kağıtspor Kulübü from 2006 to 2014.[2]

International[edit]

Otts was one of twenty-players called up to the national team to play in the team's qualifying campaign for the 2013 IIHF Women's World Championship Division II Group B qualification matches.[5][6] In preparation for qualification, she was with the team for warm up games against Bulgaria.[6][7][8]

Early life[edit]

Otts was born to an American father and a Turkish mother in Maryland September 11, 1994.[2][4][1][9] At the age of eleven, her father died and she followed her mother to Kocaeli, Turkey.[4] She is a student of English Linguistics and Literature at Kocaeli University.[4]
