Mehdi Jahangiri (Persian: مهدی جهانگیری; born in Sirjan, Kerman ).[1] is an economist, banker, chairperson, and the CEO of the Tourism Financial Group[2][3]and owner of Tourism Bank [4]. His brother, Ishaq Jahangiri,[4] served as the first deputy in the government of Hassan Rouhani [5]and candidate for the 2017 Iranian presidential elections[6].Tourism Bank was established in 2010 by Jahangiri.[7][8][9] Jahangiri is also chairman and CEO of Tourism Financial Group,[2] the Chairman of the Board of the Iran-Greece Chamber of Commerce[10] and the vice chairman of TCCIMA (Tehran Chamber of Commerce Industries Mines and Agriculture)[11]
Family and Education[edit]
His father, Hassan Jahangiri, was a mineworker in Abdasht chromite mine in Esfandagh, but after his birth, he moved to Sirjan and lived there until his death in July 2009.[1] He is the youngest member of the family and one of the five brothers of the Jahangiri family, who, along with Ishaq Jahangiri, is more famous than the other brothers. One of his brothers, Muhammad, was killed in November 1959, in Sosangerd, during the Iran-Iraq war. His other brother Yaqub was killed in 63 and the Badr operation. [1] His other brother Ebrahim was a candidate in the 2016 Iranian legislative election from Sirjan as a representative of the Iranian Reformists' Party.[2] He has a Ph.D. in the field of International Economics.[12]
Tourism Bank[edit]
Jahangiri was the founder of the Tourism Bank in 2010 in Tehran.[7] This commercial bank focuses on the tourism industry by providing a set of loans, credit facilities, and investment products, besides conventional products. Tourism Bank is an official United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) member[13]
Tourism Bank is a subsidiary of Tourism Financial Group, which is also active in real estate development, oil and gas, petrochemical, and mining businesses. The company’s shares were listed on Tehran Stock Exchange in 2011.[2]
Iran's Cultural Heritage and Tourism Investment Company, also known as Semga, is a subsidiary of the Jahangiri management, registered in July 2008 with a capital of 20 billion Tomans. It has managed to create six large satellite companies in a short period of time.[14][15]

In 2006 Iran Tourism Financial Group build Iran’s 1st cliff hotel in Kandovan village.[16]
In 2015 Jahangiri as chairman of Aria Ziggurat signed an agreement with a major French hotel, Accor Hotels, in the first deal of its kind since Tehran reached an agreement with world powers on its disputed nuclear program to use the Novotel and Ibis brands for 15 years. The two firms did not publicize the amount of the contract.[17]
In 2017 Jahangiri became the Chairman of the Board of the newly established joint chamber of commerce between Iran and Greece increasing the bilateral trade to €3 billion over the course of three years.[18][19][20]
Mehdi Jahangiri received an award from Rouhani for being one of the top entrepreneurs of the year in September 2016..[21]
Jahangiri was the director of Iran’s Cultural and Tourism Investment company, known as Semega established in June 2009 with a capital of 20b tomans (more than $5m).[22]
Mahdi Jahangiri has been on the board of directors at Bonab Steel Industry Complex, Iran’s Handball Federation, Negin Gardeshgari Tourism Company, and Mahan Mines and Industry Development Holding. [22]
