Girl Next (also known as Girl Next: Vol. 1 and Smackers Presents: Girl Next) is a 2006 compilation album released in the United States and "presented by Smackers", featuring pop music tracks by various recording artists. The album was marketed toward a young, pre-teen and teen demographic and was released in conjunction with promotional offers from the Smackers lip gloss brand. The compilation includes songs from popular artists of the mid-2000s, some of which were presented in exclusive or remixed forms.
Background
The album was released on August 15, 2006, and featured a selection of contemporary pop songs performed by various artists signed to Hollywood Records and affiliated labels. The Girl Next compilation included tracks that tied into other media properties and teen pop culture of the time, such as Disney Channel promotions, including The Cheetah Girls, Hannah Montana and High School Musical.

Release and promotion
Girl Next was released on CD format, and per its album artwork, included promotional tie-ins for an LG Migo phone, Smackers branded lip gloss and a chance to "win a $1,000 MYplash card", and was aimed at young music consumers at the time of its release.[2]
Reception
Heather Phares of AllMusic published a review of Girl Next that described the album as a brand-driven "ladies-only teen pop" album, tied to Lip Smackers lip gloss products, and that the album "focuses on the youngest and newest teen pop acts -- theres no Britney or Christina to be found here", and goes on to say that the album features venerable acts including The Cheetah Girls, Aly & AJ, Hilary and Haylie Duff, and Kelly Clarkson. Phares also goes on to say that the highlights of the album include JoJo's song "Baby It's You", The Veronica's "4ever", Jeannie Ortega's "Crowded" and Vanessa Hudgens' "When There Was Me and You". Phares also goes on to state that "Smackers and this collection are both sweet, shiny fun".[3]
