(viii)
VIII or viii is a Roman Numeral meaning the number 8 or the eighth in aristocracy.[1] It was sometimes written as IIX (as 10-2 rather than 5+3).[2]

IIX or iix would have been written in such a form as 10-2 (i.e. the two ones in front take away two from ten, leaving the numeral with eight.) The numerals were often carved into objects which meant that writing IIX or iix would have been much easier as this would only require four lines to create the number instead of the five that would be used for VIII.[2]
