Background
Jared Corder is from Phoenix, AZ and Kristyn Corder is from in Katy, TX. The two met in Nashville, TN and were engaged not long after.[6] Bad Latitude and Floral Canyon producer and mixer Gregory Lattimer advised that Kristyn should join the band, as told by Jared:[7]
“Gregory told me that the most punk-rock thing you can do is write a good love song, and I took that to heart and started writing all these songs about our relationship,” Jared recalls. “I knew I wanted a female singer in the band so I had Kristyn on a couple demos, and as soon as Gregory heard them he said, ‘I think you just found your girl singer.’ It all took off from there.”[6]
The band’s name comes from directions on a shampoo bottle, hence the asterisk and lowercase type.[8]
Some of Jared’s musical inspirations are Bad Religion, and Black Flag. Kristyn’s inspirations include The Mamas and the Papas and The Everly Brothers.[9] Jared told Guitar World Magazine “The combination of the two influences is the essence of the band.” [10]
The band signed with Dangerbird Records in 2016 for two albums. [11]
Albums
•Bad Latitude (2014)
Bad Latitude, self-released, was recorded in a friend of the band’s basement with producer Gregory Lattimer.
•Floral Canyon (2017)
Floral Canyon is the band’s first studio album. Floral Canyon’s title was inspired by Los Angeles’ Laurel Canyon.[6] Recorded at Big Light Studios (Germantown, Nashville, TN). Produced by Gregory Lattimer (who had produced “Yours to Keep” by Albert Hammond Jr).[12] Floral Canyon’s album artwork was done by illustrator Rachel Briggs with Kristyn Corder’s art direction.
•Glazed (2019)
Glazed is the band’s second studio album. Glazed’s title refers to an anniversary card Kristyn received from Jared that featured donuts and read, “You’re a rainbow sprinkle in a sea of glazed”[13] Songwriting was done by Jared Corder, Kristyn Corder, and Patrick Carney.[4] Recording was done at Audio Eagle Studio in Nashville, TN. Produced by Patrick Carney. Art direction and graphic design was handled by Kristyn Corder.
Billboard premiered the music video for “Hi, I’m Waiting”; the first single off Glazed. [14]
Michelle Branch provides guest harmony on the penultimate track of the album, Woke With You. [5]
Kyle Kinane makes a surprise guest appearance in the music video for Hi, I’m Waiting.[14]
