100 Welsh Women

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

100+ Welsh Women (Welsh: 100+ Menywod Cymreig) is a list of notable Welsh women compiled by Wales’s Womens Equality Network. It was first launched in 2018 to mark the centenary of the Representation of the People Act 1918.[1][2]

The 2018 list initially consisted of 50 living women and 50 late women, selected by WEN Wales and a panel of judges.[2][3]

Of the 50 late women, five were selected to go through to a public vote, with the winner honoured with a new statue in Central Square, Cardiff. It will be the first outdoor public statue of a woman in Wales. Betty Campbell was selected by the public and her statue is due to be unveiled in 2020.[4][5][6]

In 2020, 15 more women were added to the list to celebrate International Women's Day.[7][8]
