13 Fanboy is an upcoming American meta-slasher film directed by Debi Sue Voorhees and written by Joel Paul Reisig and Voorhees. The storyline focuses on numerous actors that starred in a popular slasher film franchise who find themselves as the target of an obsessed fan that wants to replicate their death scenes in real life. It stars Hayley Greenbauer as Kelsie Voorhees, with Dee Wallace, Voorhees, Adrienne King, C.J. Graham, Kane Hodder, Thom Mathews, Corey Feldman, Lar Park Lincoln, Judie Aronson, and Tracie Savage as fictionalized versions of themselves.

The film was conceived during the notable Friday the 13th lawsuit that prevented further films to be made. Although featuring an ensemble cast of Friday the 13th actors, it is wholly disparate in terms of tone and style and has no connections to the mythology of the Jason Voorhees saga. The film is set to be the starting point of a new series.

Synopsis[edit]

After witnessing the murder of her grandmother Deborah Voorhees, a famous Friday the 13th actress, Kelsie Voorhees is left traumatized as a child. When other Friday the 13th actresses begin to fall victim to the killer, an adult Kelsie finds herself as the target of the deranged fan that wants to replicate the horror franchise's death scenes in real life after risking her life to save her grandmother's best friend Dee Wallace.

Production[edit]

Development[edit]

While discussing potential film projects with her producing partner Reisig, Voorhees got an idea for a potential film when he asked her what horror conventions were like and if she had ever had negative fan encounters. The concept for the film originates from unnerving fan encounters she had endured before and after her appearance as Tina in Friday the 13th: A New Beginning (1985). Shaken by these rare incidents, Voorhees decided to use her fear as the inspiration and storyline basis for a feature length horror film. Taking a meta approach to the genre, the film features several cast members of the Friday the 13th films as fictionalized versions of themselves who discover that they are in the same predicament as the characters they are famous for portraying. Voorhees had several conversations with actress Adrienne King prior to writing, envisioning her as the lead and specifically writing the script for her. The original screenplay was tentatively titled Friday Fanboy but the writers decided to go with 13 Fanboy as they felt it was a better homage to the Friday the 13th franchise and its fandom.

Casting[edit]

While originally on board to portray the lead, King—who portrayed the heroine Alice in Friday the 13th (1980) and Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981)—ultimately decided to decline the offer due to how realistic she felt the script was to an incident she had with a real life stalker pursuing her after her involvement in the first two Friday the 13th films. This led to the lead role having to be recast. After receiving support and reassurance from fans, King had a discussion with Voorhees and subsequently a supporting role was incorporated into the film for her.

Filming[edit]

The film was primarily shot in the village of Ruidoso, New Mexico from July 2019 through early 2020.[1]
