The awards pay tribute to the best of British Asian talent across the arts, community service, the professions, uniformed services, sports and the world of business. The Asian Achievers Awards’ slogan is “celebrating Asian excellence in the UK.”
History
The Asian Achievers Awards (AAA), also known as the People’s Choice Awards, are now in their 18th year and celebrate the outstanding work of South Asians from across a broad spectrum of backgrounds and professions. [1] They are organised by Asian Business Publications Ltd., (ABPL), the owners of Asian Voice and Gujurat Samachar which are 45-year-old print and on-line newsweeklies.[2]
The annual awards galas have helped raise millions of pounds for various charities. The 2018 awards will raise vital funds for this year’s chosen charity partner, Oracle Cancer.[3]
2018 Awards
Tottenham female football star Maya Vio, actor James Krishna Floyd and mental health campaigner Poppy Jaman are among the 32 nominees shortlisted for this year’s AAA[4][5].[6]
The 2018 awards ceremony will take place at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London on Friday, 14 September.[7][8][9] It is expected to be the biggest yet with some 800 guests including an array of celebrities, entrepreneurs, MPs, industry leaders, senior professionals, titled dignitaries and members of the uniformed services.[10]
ABPL Chairman CB Patel said of the 32 nominees for the 2018 awards: “I am delighted to unveil the shortlist for this year’s nominees – each of whom is singularly responsible for bringing the Asian community to the centre stage of British life. They are inspiring role models for us all and for future generations.”[11]
